Over the years, Iris Kain has called Michigan, Arizona, South Carolina, Georgia, and Germany home. She is a fan of horror books and movies, hard rock, and enjoys playing the piano (poorly). She currently resides in Alabama with her husband, son, cats, and two adorable Swedish Vallhund dogs.

Welcome to my site!

For years, my writing consisted of mountains of paper hoarded in countless expanding file folders hidden in dark corners of various closets as I changed homes throughout a turbulent, sometimes amusing, always unpredictable, and periodically nefarious life. Stories I was too bashful to share with people. Stories that were mostly about love and mushy stuff I wasn’t too familiar with but thought I wanted to find. (I had the crazy idea that love was keen.)

If it wasn’t for my friend Jamie, I doubt I’d have had the courage to share my work. Fortunately, (after downing a bottle of Vampire wine together back in 2003,) she coaxed me into dredging out a short story of mine.

“This is good,” she said, handing it back to me.

(Note: I heard, “This isn’t great.”) “Thanks,” I said.

“You should send it in.”

I disagreed, and she proceeded to sit on me while she looked up a suitable market. We blew the dust off, sent it in, and I was accepted. That gave me the courage to endure the next group of rejection letters for the novel I’d just finished. Meanwhile, I had a dozen or so short stories published in various small-circulation horror magazines.

Soon, I had a son. Then, I worked on a degree. And another degree. Life got busy, and I let events get in the way of my writing. Meanwhile, technology flourished, making it possible for those of us with enough incentive to get our books out to the world without going the traditional (“trad”) publishing route.

It took me seventeen years to publish Shadow Hunter and Eternal Spring, but I did it, and the reviews have been good. Never give up on your dreams, y’all.

Out of all of my work, though, the Blood Tribe series is my favorite. Blood Tribe was written as the first book in a vampire trilogy, and y’all, I love me some vampires. The following books, Blood Trials & Blood Treason, followed soon after. Now, the entire trilogy is out, and I couldn’t be happier. Vivian & Michael’s story is one of my favorites, and I love how their characters develop with each book.

Well, if you’re at my website, I can only guess you want to know a few things about me. So, I’m gonna rip off every blog/social network site out there and keep it to general interests:
